Which EM Analysis Should I Use?
(narrated presentation)

Which EM analysis should I use? This question has frustrated many high frequency designers, both new and experienced. There are many different tools available. Choose the right one and you win big time. Choose the wrong one and you lose. This presentation describes four different types of analyses and gives a commercial example of each one. Our own EM tool, Sonnet, is only one of the four tools. The high level advantages and disadvantages of each tool are summarized so that the designer can choose the tool, or combination of tools best applied to a specific problem. All product names in this presentation are registered trademarks of their respective companies.

Exact Evaluation of Sonnet's Thick Metal Model
(narrated presentation)
play Play Video tips
There is a wide spread misperception that Sonnet as a planar analysis either can not do thick metal, or that a volume meshing tool (e.g., finite elements) can do thick metal better. For this presentation, we use an exact (to within +/- 0.0006%) theoretical result for a very thick stripline. We compare results of a Sonnet convergence analysis and a volume meshing analysis.
