Admin => License

Sonnet Task Bar - Admin Menu

If you are interested in an overview of how Sonnet licensing is done, go to How does Sonnet licensing work?

Selecting Admin => License opens the License dialog box which allows you to set up your licensing and enable your software. If you do not yet have a license , you can request a license at www.sonnetsoftware.com/license. A license file is sent to you by email from Sonnet as an attachment file, "sonnet.lic." in response to your license request. When you receive this email, the attachment should be saved on your computer.

Once you receive this email and save the file, you need to open this dialog box by selecting Admin => License from the main menu of the Sonnet Task bar.

There are two categories of licenses: Local or Remote. You must select your license category by clicking on the appropriate radio button. Descriptions of the category are below. Further down are links to common licensing scenarios with instructions on using this dialog box.

Local: A local license is one in which the software running on your computer accesses the license file or the computer on which your are running is the license server . Examples of local license use are:

License File: You should enter the location of the "sonnet.lic" file sent to you from Sonnet. You should have saved this file on your computer; enter that location here. You may also click on the Browse button to open a Browse window which allows you to select the file on your computer. When you click on the OK button, the emailed license file is copied to your Sonnet directory. Normally, the license file you enter is copied to a default location

<Sonnet Directory>\licenses\sonnet.lic

where <Sonnet Directory> is the directory in which Sonnet is installed. If you wish to place the license file used by the License Manager in another location, click on the Advanced button and enter the desired destination for the license file when it is copied.

Windows Vista Only Note: If you do not have administrator permissions and your license does not require a license manager (for example, if you are evaluating the software), then the default location for the license file is in "My Documents/sonnet/<version>/licenses/sonnet.lic"

Remote: In this category, you are running your software on this computer, but the license server is on another machine. You must purchase a floating or site license in order to do this.

License Server: This text entry box is only enabled when the Remote radio button is selected. Enter the name or IP address of the computer that is the license server in this text entry box.

Port Number: The socket port number which is used to communicate with the license manager .

Factory Defaults: Clicking on this button restores this window to the initial default settings used for a new installation.
